Present
I am a ceramic artist based in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, where I have had the opportunity to live in recent years. I use mainly stoneware and have lately been expanding into working with porcelain. I am currently fulfilling my dream of building out my very first home studio and am looking forward to this next chapter! I find inspiration from the nature around me, including tropical flora, the vibrant colors of the ocean, gradients of the sunsets, and lush mountains, and I am always trying to bring a touch of that color into my art.
I only recently started sharing my art online and am excited to share more with you soon. Ceramics is one of the oldest crafts, and I believe techniques are meant to be shared… there are no trade secrets here! My art would not be what it is without the friends, mentors, and other artists who shared their tricks and techniques with me, so as I continue to learn, I am happy to share with you all too!
Roots
Before clay, my creative medium was pastry. I trained at Le Cordon Bleu and worked at Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery in Napa Valley, developing an intense appreciation for precision, quality, and extreme attention to detail. I later transitioned into artisan chocolate, focusing on recipe development, but the emphasis was on painting vibrant and colorful bonbons with cocoa butter. It was here that I first fell in love with the addictive flow state of creating.
Clay
Everything shifted while I was helping open some chocolate shops in Taiwan. On a day off, a friend took me to Yingge, the ceramics capital of Taiwan. Walking through the streets and exploring the Yingge Ceramics Museum, it all suddenly clicked. I saw the undeniable parallels between chocolate and clay, specifically the similar tools, the artistic precision, and even working with molds. It was at that moment I had the realization that I could replace my brush strokes of cocoa butter with the timeless brush strokes of glaze. My creativity did not belong to the kitchen; it belonged in the studio. Finding clay was the missing link that allowed me to leave the restaurant burnout I was experiencing and continue to have an artistic outlet.
What started as a small side hobby, over the years has become my favorite way to spend my free time. It has been about a decade since I first touched clay and I have been obsessed ever since. Working with ceramics is a never ending process of learning, you learn from every piece you make. It is
On my site, you will find pieces I am working on, new techniques I am trying, and glazes I am playing with. While I continue to build out my website, please follow my socials for updates!
I have big plans for releasing pieces for sale online this year, so stay tuned for more details!
